Women were taught that “selfish” is a dirty word.
Welcome to SELF-ISH
Let’s just get this out of the way.
Yes, this blog is about being “SELF-ISH”.
And no, I’m not talking about being a narcissist, an asshole, or abandoning your responsibilities to sip mimosas on a yacht (although… tempting).
I’m talking about the kind of selfish that actually makes you a better mother, partner, leader, friend, and human.
So hi. I’m Rachel.
And this is where we’re going to get real, dig deep, and say the things most women are thinking—but rarely say out loud.
Because here’s the truth no one warned us about:
Women were taught that “selfish” is a dirty word.
From the time we could walk, we were praised for being good, helpful, accommodating, and self-sacrificing. We learned early that love equals giving… and giving… and giving—often at the expense of ourselves.
And somewhere along the way, that turned into full-blown self-erasure.
Now before you roll your eyes and say, “Oh please, I’m no doormat—I run my house, I make money, I’m the boss,” let me ask you something:
Do you feel guilty going on a girls’ trip?
What if you take more than one a year—does the guilt creep in then?
When was the last time you vacationed without your kids?
Or better yet… alone?
Have you ever skipped a game or recital and immediately felt like the worst mother alive?
Do multiple date nights a month sound indulgent instead of normal?
Have you ever received a promotion and thought, This won’t last—they’ll figure me out?
Yeah. That’s what I thought.
If any of that hit—this blog is for you.
Because the hard truth is this:
You cannot pour from an empty cup—but most women don’t just have empty cups. We have cracked, leaking, bone-dry cups and we’re still expected to keep pouring with a smile.
So let me ask you the questions we’re going to keep coming back to here:
Do you actually love yourself?
Do you truly believe in yourself?
Do you wake up most days thinking, Damn… I’m a hot, powerful woman who deserves a full, juicy life?
Because that is how you’re meant to feel.
I know society has spent centuries convincing us otherwise. And we’re going to unpack that here—layer by layer. The conditioning. The guilt. The inherited bullshit that’s practically coded into our DNA.
Women are powerful. So powerful, in fact, that the world had to dim us, tame us, and convince us that sacrificing our happiness was the highest form of love.
Well… f*#% that.
This blog is about blowing that box wide open.
Some weeks we’ll talk about motherhood.
Some weeks about marriage, sex, money, identity, ambition, and burnout.
Some weeks about wellness, confidence, aging, and becoming the woman you actually want to be—not the one you were told to be.
This is not man-hating. I love men.
This is not anti-family. I adore mine.
This is not about doing less—it’s about living better.
Because when you rise fully into who you are, something magical happens:
Your kids don’t suffer.
Your partner isn’t threatened.
Your world expands.
You give everyone around you permission to rise too.
This is about breaking generational cycles.
This is about reclaiming your legacy.
This is about making the second half of your life the boldest, sexiest, most unapologetic chapter yet.
So mute the inner voice trying to keep you small.
Turn down the guilt.
And pull up a chair.
We’re just getting started.
Let’s f*#%ing go
